Oral history transcripts and materials. 1967-1986.

The collection consists of a primary source of information about both Eastern Airlines and the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS). The Eastern Airlines materials, in addition to interview transcripts, include a negotiations chronology, 1976-1986, as well as an index card chronology, 1983-1986, and a "final report" from Harvard University under a U.S. Department of Labor contract in May 1987. The transcripts, titled, "Bargaining History of Eastern Airlines" give unique insight into the intense labor-management conflict characterizing the denouncement and demise of Eastern in the late 1980s. Interviewees include Usery, Frank Borman, several airline captains, Eastern senior management, and key unions in the conflict. At the end of Series 8 are twelve interview transcripts with the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS), the topic for discussion. Interviewees include Usery, Kenneth E. Moffett, Walter E. Simkin, Rulf Valtin and Lester Wolff, then President, National Academy of Conciliators.
